Wiki Offline — A Wikipedia Experience App Reviews

Nice UI but holy crap it crashed every second entry I looked up. Re-downloaded it again without so much as thinking about using my iPhone for anything else in order to get a stable version. Tried again because it loads articles 20x faster than allofwiki.

As the title says its real. Most of human information in your pocket. I think its worth the (currently) $5. That said the UI is terrible and on top of the fee to get the accrual app you need to pay $0.99 every time you want to update it.

Excellent for offline reading and research. A world of knowledge in you hand, available at all times. And faster than online. Great on an airplane.

In short - databases crash, software does not support OS 5 fully, and articles are missing crucial informations, like names and places linked to other articles... Support, while responsive, offers no useful solutions in situations where you would be using the software - OFFLINE. I have spent hours and hours trying to get this to work, only to find that the articles are corrupt. I am also a software troubleshooter/ tech, and this app just does not do what it says it will - Read on before you buy! I bought this app before a road trip from Toronto to New Orleans and it loaded up fine, until I maxed out the space on my 4S. Then the wiki database disappeared. After that, I deleted my music database, but it was impossible to reinstall the database on my phone. According to Wiki Offlne support, OS5 kicks out the offline database when you run out of space on the phone - an issue the author still has not addressed. Evan, the author, was responsive, but gave me the most ridiculous set of instructions for reinstalling the database - downloading files from his server, to a pc, renaming the files, syncing with iTunes... The whole point of an offline database is not to have to download it!!! Of course I had not brought a pc with me, and I had now erased my music as well. I bought "All Of Wiki", and although its slow to load articles (10-12 secs load time,) it works. 6 months later, I am on a trip through eastern Europe, I managed to redownload and test the wiki offline database before I left, more or less forgetting the trouble I had had in the US. Sure enough, it crashed again while in Slovakia, and I could not redownload the database, even though there was more than 8 gigs available on my phone. Once again, I was given the same unhelpful instructions, which were impossible to follow unless i had a computer and a stable connection - again, the reason I bought the app was to use it when I was offline! And, I quote the support person - "If youre not willing to follow my instructions, theres nothing more I can do to help you." Really! I reinstalled the competitions app on my phone - the main reason I avoided using it is that "All Of Wikis" database is almost 2GB larger, and it works fine. READ THIS - I installed Wiki Offline successfully on my iPad, and was reading an article on the second restoration of the Bourbon throne in France, fourth paragraph (Yawn!) which read like this: chief ministers were at first moderate, including , the , and ; himself followed a cautious policy. The , elected in 1815 and given the nickname "unobtainable" by Louis,... Which makes no sense! All the linked names are missing! In "All of Wiki" it reads: Louis chief ministers were at first moderate, including, the Duc de Richelieu, and Élie, duc Decazes; Louis himself followed a cautious policy. The chambre introuvable, elected in 1815 and given the nickname "unobtainable" by Louis,... I understand why "All of Wiki" has such a huge database, because its more or less complete. Wiki Offlines database is missing a lot of links which makes reading the articles impossible. This is my first review for any app ever, but Ive spent so much time on this I thought I would try and save you some. Again, "All of Wiki" is slow, but its worth, it, cause it works. The download process also works, and though the English DB is huge, it seems to be complete. I suggest avoiding this Wiki Offline until it is corrected.

It crushes all the time, and it runs freaking slow! You cannot even restore your purchase! How come that you dont fix those bugs? Give my money back!!

i spend many weekends far from the net. having even this reduced edition is a great help.

The negative opinions below are just that , opinions. I have always had response to issues quickly by support staff. The app rarely if ever crashes. It is the best knowledge tool to get quick responses without Internet connection. As many say its invaluable in any contest of argument and yes if you have this , youll win the contest , why? Because youd know that citation wins arguments and who better to cite than Wikipedia ? If Siri worked offline and with this app it would awesome(r). I also have Wolfram but I use this app much much more to get fast resolve to my queries. Great app. Great support and more knowledge than youll ever be able to retain. Good work guys

I find the last review, complete tartuffery!! The administers of this app truly demonstrate their apophasis!! They have published your most gleaming review in full. Bollix, they cut my review in half, a most corporeal attempt to deprecate my honest review. Since my two emails I have as yet received no response let alone an answer to my questions. I find this diaphanous paradox to bolster their fabulist belief that this app is really an ersatz to the real issue. If you have any true fiduciary belief in your app, publish review and explain why, to this day you have not responded to my question. Muse on this concise review of your product.

It has an awesome searching aid function. This makes my itouch worth it alone. One of my favorite things. Bookmark section, read later section even a easy definition function

I salute the ones who contributed to make it happen. No App is or will be as informative as Wikipedia. I feel like I am carrying the world knowledge with me. I find answers to ANY questions curiosities that I have on my finger tips.

Easily my fave app in the whole iTunes! A world of knowledge in your fingertip. What could be better than that? Worth every penny.

When isnt it handy to have your own copy of a great up to date reference? Offline wiki does it well

Main issue is the search in article not working. I like the layout o articles pretty much same as online. Im wondering whether the full version includes all articles - the other apps on the store include 5gb version of English Wikipedia (text only). Not sure if this is due to compression type. Adjusting front size should be easier. It loads articles very fast. Because of the search problem issue app goes to trash.

This app made the iPad magnitudes better.
